Introduction to Council Training: Facilitation Training Series

POSTPONED - DATES TBA

Facilitation Training Series: Introduction to Council Training

Description

Council is a relational practice, a compelling communication method that cultivates deep listening and heartfelt dialogue. Council helps to nurture the deep, authentic connections so often missing in our fast-paced lives. This training offers an introduction to the practice; grounding in the forms, elements and intentions, exploring the lineage and current forms of practice in our modern world.

Council is one of many circle practices that bring people together to share honestly and listen deeply. Council is practiced around the world in homes, communities, organizations, prisons and educational settings including more than 60 public and private schools, many prisons and non-profit and social-justice organizations around California.

This training is for anyone interested in facilitation and community building. The 16 hour training will give you the foundational skills to facilitate council and introduce it in your personal lives, organizations and communities.

Yamin Chehin, MTCM is a Council trainer, facilitator, and doctor of Oriental Medicine, with intimate experience of nature-based and shamanic practices that inform her work with clients and groups, and help to integrate the healing potential implicit in our stories and our bodies. She facilitates councils in English and Spanish (her native language) for women, teen-age girls, and youth-at-risk, as well as with non-profits and community organizations. She and her husband co-lead monthly couple’s circles and practice Council at home with each other and their family. Find out more at healingcycles.net.

Sofia Rose Smith is a writer, facilitator, teacher and Council trainer. She is rooted in a lineage that centers healing as a form of justice. Sofia is committed to ending systems of oppression that do all of us harm, as well as being a steward of practices that support us in feeling more at home in our bodies and connected to one another. Council found Sofia while she was a service provider at an internationally renowned LGBT organization, working with queer and trans youth of color. Council became a practice that was supportive for Sofia as a service provider, and impactful for her clients and staff. Close to a decade later, Sofia carries this methodology with her wherever she goes, and is excited to be among the group of trainers bringing this to communities on the frontlines of change. For more on her current projects, visit sofiarosesmith.com
