Council

LISTEN OURSELVES BACK INTO WHOLENESS

Council is an ancient process, practiced around the world in communities, organizations and educational settings to nurture authentic communication, non-judgmental listening and support the unfolding of a collective vision.

Council is essentially a practice of listening and harvesting the wisdom of the collective, a co-creative field of emergent, heartfelt storytelling which often reveals and illuminates a larger story. It is a participatory mystery which has the possibility of being a catalyst for healing, inspiration, meditation or simply a moment of connection.

Imagine sitting around a central fire listening to each other and to the wider world, sharing stories, dreams, concerns, visions, sorrows, one person at a time, all of us listening from our hearts to our sisters and brothers, our people, even those we might consider strangers or enemies.

“I believe we can change the world if we start listening to each other. Simple, honest, human conversation. Not mediation, negotiation, problem-solving, debate or public meetings. Simple, truthful conversation where we each have a chance to speak, we each feel heard, and we listen well.”

— Margaret Wheatly
